Potential Curtailment of DOE's Alternative Energy Loan Guarantee Program

The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power voted 14 - 6 on July 25, 2012, to prohibit the Energy Department from issuing loan guarantees on alternative energy technology applications submitted after 2011 and to place new limits on existing applications and loans. The mostly party-line vote is a continuing GOP reaction to last year's bankruptcy of the taxpayer-backed solar panel company, Solyndra, and this year's collapse of the panel manufacturing company, Abound Solar
